History
It all started for Goldenfruit founder Peter Hendriks in 1954.
Peter's first experience in produce was with the Maltese Market Gardens at Wentworthville, this lead to his family to opening a fruit shop on the Great Western Highway Sydney. At 18 Peter secured a job within the Sydney Markets working for John Jenkins and from here he then secured a position with Wholesale Agent N.A. Alfredmoss, it was with N.A. Alfredmoss that Peter learnt the in-depth elements of the markets.
In 1965 Peter moved to Wee Waa to take up work within the cotton fields. This is where Peter and his wife created their family. It wasn't until 1972 that Peter then decided to return to Sydney. The families move back to the city was driven by Peter's passion for the markets and fresh produce.
Peter started buying fruit and vegetables for the Warringah Markets then took up a role travelling for Liverpool Growers. Every week he travelled to Bundaberg meeting each grower on a weekly basis for 12 months. This period in Peter's career was very successful, his success enabled him to register the business name Goldenfruit and open the families very own wholesale stand in Shed A of the Sydney Markets.
As the business started to grow Peter employed his eldest son Damian as a Salesperson to look after fruit sales. Damian started in the markets learning the business operations and driving forklifts. It is through Damian's insights and initiatives that have contributed to the growth and reputation of Goldenfruit.
Peter's brother Fred joined Goldenfruit in 1996. His knowledge of the industry, hard work and business ethics has made him an integral part of the Goldenfruit sales team. In 2003 Peter's younger son Jason also came on board.
Jason joining his brother Damian meant Peter could retire. "I could not be happier with where the business is today and I am now looking forward to watching Goldenfruit grow to the next level of success in the future." Peter Hendriks.
Goldenfruit today is a leading fruit wholesaler specialising in premium fruit sales to independent retail.
Our Future
The Goldenfruit business will continue to expand in the key area of fruit wholesaling however our plans are to move into other areas of business within the fresh produce industry.
